Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October 25, 2021
October is Cybersecurity Awareness month and Amboy bank encourages everyone to continue to reexamine the importance of focusing on ways to protect valuable, online information from being exposed.

According to Cybersecurity Ventures, by the end of 2021, cybercrime will have globally cost the world $6 billion and is expected to continue to rise to $10.5 trillion by 2025, despite the many extra measures companies, organizations and individuals have taken to counter cybercrime.

While these statistics are alarming, by continuing to stay educated and informed about the latest cybercrime activity you can proactively identify, and thus avoid, identified traps. The 2021 Data Breach Investigations Report from Verizon revealed that 85% of breaches involved the human element, meaning there are effective measures we can all practice to avoid falling victim to a cybercrime. An increase of 11%, for example, of those breaches included phishing campaigns, or an attempt to use email to obtain an individual’s personal information or infiltrate a computer with malware.

If you receive an attachment or link from someone you don’t know, never open or click on them. If it is valid, you will be able to call the sender, by phone, to confirm the legitimacy of both the sender and the attachment or link. Even if you do recognize the sender, but the attachment or link seems random or suspicious, confirm with the individual by phone, text or in person.

Abiding by a few precautions can go a long way in preventing cybercrime. Please continue to check our Security Center for updates and tips, and if you experience any security related activity with any of your Amboy Bank accounts, please contact us immediately at 877-222-6269 or reportfraud@amboybank.com.
